By the way, I wrote this purely for personal comic relief and the ignition of massive flame wars among commentators
Only two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former – Albert Einstein
There’s no question about its existence. It’s everywhere, permeating every corner of humanity. It’s on talk shows, politics, and corporate management. It’s called human stupidity.
Human stupidity is kind of like a Romero-style zombie virus: everyone is infected, but it only activates under the right stimuli (in the case of a zombie virus-infected person, the “stimuli” is death, which will result in reanimation as a zombie). Human stupidity is pretty much the same. It’s an innate trait that only comes out in the right conditions. Unfortunately, the “right” conditions usually involve politics, decision-making, and being in a position of power (think senator or corporate manager). You can tell what that spells for the rest of the world.
Despite everyone being infected, a few wise individuals have discovered ways to control and even cure themselves of stupidity. Unfortunately, these people are vastly outnumbered 1 million to 1. As well, they often have an urge to tell the absolute truth. Nobody likes to be told that he/she is an idiot, and with a world populated by idiots, it’s obvious these poor, clever individuals are going to get into disagreements quite a lot. Just look at Galileo and the Roman Catholic Church.
To make matters worse, some particularly devious people have figured out ways to control the masses of raw human idiocy to their advantage. It doesn’t take a lot of intelligence to manipulate sheep, only ambition and determination. Thus, the overlords place themselves at the top of their pyramid with all of their underlings forming the base, i.e. the part of the pyramid that goes underneath. This is the exact reason why good guys (usually) finish last: no amount of intelligence will give them the ambition and determination to subjugate others to their will.
As technology grows more advanced than ever before, the gap between the cured and uncured will increase. The uncured will simply take technology for granted and become flabbier as they sit on their chairs and surf the Internet for entertainment. The cured will use technology to seek out actually important/useful information and help overcome the inertia of the flabby Internet surfers. This distinction is obvious. When you walk into a library, you will notice that some of the computer users are playing games and watching viral videos. The others will either be doing their homework, browsing through educational sites, etc.
For the most part, I recommend any uncured person reading this article to not get offended and rage on the comments. Instead, actually try to cure yourself and lessen the burden on society that was created by idiots. For those who are already cured, for the sake of your health and safety don’t try to cure the rest of humanity on your own because you’ll only get hurt. Instead, choose the devious path and discover a way to become supreme dictator over the mindless sheep. You’ll be getting more worth out of your intelligence if you do so.
